Herodotus' Histories, translated from Greek by A.D. Godley, in 1964 bookmarked and searchable pdf pages. The download contains Loeb Classical Library volumes L117, L118, L119, and L120 (New York, 1921-1925) in one file. Attached to the pdf document are multilingual HTML versions of each book, made from G. C. Macaulay's translation (1890). Herodotus wrote one of the earliest surviving Greek histories of the then-known world. Born in 484 B.C. at Halicarnassus in Caria, Asia Minor, the author travelled extensively in parts of Europe, Western Asia, and Northern Africa. Known as the "Father of History" (and, alternately, as the "Father of Lies"), Herodotus produced a work that was and is extremely readable and enjoyable. The reliability of his information has been questioned, though a considerable amount of it has been confirmed by archaeological and other sources. The book also is an important early source for folklore, mythology, ethnography, and many other topics. Books digitized by Google and Internet Archive, and compiled by Robert Bedrosian. Wikipedia has entries on Herodotus, his Histories, and related topics. Google Images has fine maps for Herodotus' Histories.
Note: the Greek and English texts are best displayed with the pages "side by side" ("two up" or "facing"). Pdf readers (such as Foxit and Adobe) have this option under the menu item View/Page Display.
